Pay

Sulphur PD values their officers. Each employee receives an annual 2% pay increase on their anniversary of working, as well as a 1.5% to 2.5% annual pay increase (subject to city budget availability) on July 1st every year. All POST certified officers receive a Louisiana state supplemental pay of $600 monthly after their first year of service ($7,200 pay increase).

Special Units

There are many career advancement opportunities with Sulphur PD. Specialty units include the Training Division, Investigation Division, Traffic Division, Field Training Officer (FTO), Certified Instructors (Taser, Defensive Tactics, OC Spray, Firearms Instructor), Narcotics Division, K9, and SRT.

Police Officer

Patrols within City Limits in no specified manner to be visible to the public. Generally, makes presence known to prevent criminal activity and to deter traffic violations.

Responds to all sorts of calls to include disturbances, thefts, crashes, homicides, ambulance assist calls and civil matters. Enforces traffic laws to include traffic stops for various violations.

Performs duties at the scene of a fight or domestic dispute. Maintains Law and Order. Attempts to calm parties involved in a fight situation in order to gain control of the situation.

Performs investigations of crimes and makes arrests; reports descriptions of suspect(s) by radio transmission in response to criminal actions, in order to aid fellow officers in the apprehension of suspects; collects and labels evidence taken from the crime scene; talks to complainant, witnesses, and others, to obtain facts and information about various crimes; makes arrests according to law and established procedure.
